India's longest river bridge

  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T) won the bid to construct India’s longest road bridge over a river. 
  • Before this, 9.15-km-long Bhupen Hazarika Setu was India's longest road river bridge.

DETAILS

  • The bridge was first proposed in 2015. 
  • In 2019, the Union cabinet approved the project.
  • The bridge will be from Dhubri (Assam) to Phulbari (Meghalaya) on NH 127B. 
  • It will be built for the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.
  • The length of the bridge is to be 19.8 km long. 
  • It will be built across the river Brahmaputra. 
  • It will cost ₹3166 crore. 
  • The project is being financed by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). 
  • It is expected to be completed by 2026-27.
