India's first lithium refinery in Gujarat

  • India’s first Lithium refinery will be set up in Gujarat. 
  • It will process Lithium ore to produce battery-grade material.
  • Manikaran Power Limited, one of the country’s largest power trading and renewable energy company will invest over ₹1,000 crore to set up this refinery. 
  • The company is exploring Sanand and Dholera, in Gujarat to set up this refinery.
  • The company will import Lithium ore from Australia and process it in India.

LITHIUM

  • Lithium is a rare element not usually found in India. 
  • Lithium is the lightest metal and the least dense solid element. 
  • The most important use of Lithium is as a component of high energy-density rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
